Cora McNamee-Lawson of Rancho San Diego died at home March 23, 2015. Although very ill since October, Cora didn't complain about her illness and maintained the optimistic outlook that those who knew her would say was so typical of her whole life.
Cora was born in Singapore in 1949, the youngest daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Christopher Oliverio, and was the cherished little sister to Winnie, Sidney and Doris.

In the 1970's Cora worked for Quantas Airlines as an air hostess, sparking her enjoyment of foreign travel. Along the way she married Richard McNamee, traveling and living in Naples, Italy, the state of Maine and Long Beach, California. After Richard's passing, Cora chose to make this area her home, settling in and making a new life.

A natural friend, Cora always made friends quickly and stayed in touch with folks on several continents. During retirement, she had been a very active volunteer with Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Santa Sophia Catholic Church.

The consummate creative soul, Cora absorbed everything she decided to learn. Anything she tried, she excelled at. She's created hundreds of items from watercolor paintings to quilts, crocheting and needlepoint, cooking and canning, stained glass and jewelry making, as well as producing an always beautiful, bountiful yard and garden.

There's not a person who knew her that will not miss her kindness and generosity. She is survived by her beloved husband Elton Lawson, her dear sister Winnie, her older brother Sidney, many nieces and nephews, and dozens of friends far and near.

Cora's passing will be commemorated with a funeral mass on Wednesday April 1, 2015 at 10 a.m. Flowers will help us all remember her love of beauty; your donations to Catholic Daughters of the Americas in care of Santa Sophia Catholic Church, 9800 San Juan St, Spring Valley, CA 91977 would be appreciated.
